On Gnomes and Susan G.

For those of you who are wondering, due to Susan G. Komen's choice to pull support from Planned Parenthood, we will be finding another organization this fall to donate to. An update closer to the event of who we will be providing support to and more information about this group will be provided.

  1. Thanks Dravvie. I'll keep my eyes open for new charities as well.

  2. Hi, I'm really looking forward to promoting the event this week, but I was disconcerted to read false information about Susan G. Komen and Planned Parenthood in the info post. Planned Parenthood only refers and reimburses for mammograms, only in a tiny percentage of clinics is mammography offered, and that's from someone coming in to do it for them. It looks like you've found an exciting charity to support, but I hope you can do that without perpetuating lies about what Planned Parenthood does. I don't blame you at all for not knowing this fact that even the president seems misinformed on, but I hope you read the link below and edit the info post accordingly. It may seem like a tiny detail, but to good charities like Koman, it's vital.

    1. Hi, thanks for your comment; however, the site you linked leaves out a big part of the story. Trust me, we researched this thoroughly because it was a difficult decision for us to make.

Here's a site that summarizes most of what we found, without the obvious ideological bent of the link you provided:

The point is that we don't want to be arguing politics, and we don't want to politicize this event. We want to help women and help breast cancer research and prevention, regardless of their ideology. When the Komen folks decided to step into the fray of abortion politics at the expense of poor women, we decided that the money from this event could probably be best spent elsewhere. We figured that transparency was the best policy.
