Running 2010

Thank you!

Running of the gnomes

A huge thank you to everyone who has come out!

So far we've raised over $200 dollars with donations still rolling in. We had 147 gnomes online running with us and 160 gnomes in our guild. With a few alliance buddies helping us out, a few friendly horde and a lot of people cheering us on.

We've been featured over on wowhead, and yes, we'll definitely be doing this event again! http://www.wowhead.com/blog=169762#comments

Running of the gnomes

Just who are you people, and what are you doing?

SeeD is an Alliance side guild on Scarlet Crusade-US. The guild's members come from all walks of life, ages, locations, you name it. The guild started as an RP and Social Guild, and grew into the Raiding Guild it is today.

Last year in October Skakavaz and Dravinna got together and decided to turn the guild tabards pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. They made a post on the realm and guild forums telling everyone why our normally blue tabards were pink, letting everyone know they could point and laugh, but to remind the women in their lives to go get a breast exam, or talk with their doctors.

All through October 2009 SeeD wrote down the names of each person who showed up to a raid or event wearing their pink tabards. (It was usually about 95% of people) At the end of the month, the lists were compiled into a numbered list, and /rolled for in game, and the winner, Ieuan, received 1000g.

So when September rolled around, a lot of SeeDlings started reminding the officers to turn the tabards pink come October. We tried to decide what were were going to do. Of course the tabards will be pink, we're passing out more gold, some glacial bags, and a chopper.

This year, we decided to do more than just change the color of some pixils. We wanted to give more people the power to participate, more people the opportunity to donate to a good cuase, and hopefully raise more awareness.

Why Breast Cancer?

Well, I think I can honestly say, Cancer of some form or another has effected every member of the guild, and almost everyone out there. And all of us have wives, mothers, daughters, sisters and female friends who we love and care about, some of them who we've maybe lost. Breast Cancer can even happen to men, it happened to one of my friend's dads when I was in elementary school. For the people who have lost someone to any kind of cancer, for the people who have fought and won, who are still fighting, or simply just worry about the ones they love, it's a good cause. A step forward in treatment with any kind of cancer is a step forward for everyone.

Also, it's a fact: Boobies are great.

So, a Gnome Race...To save the boobies?

Gnomes, have the option to make their hair pink, just like the breast cancer awareness ribbons. 10 or 12 people of different races racing through a capitol city could be anything. But a pile of pink haired gnomes are obviously together, prompting questions about why we're together, and allowing people to learn about our cause, and spread the word.

If just one person goes to their doctor, or gets a mammogram or gets screened because of our efforts because we maybe reminded them, or reminded someone they love about it...Then our efforts were more than worth the time.

Besides, we're a buncha level 1 gnomes attempting to get to Booty Bay. There's some fun to be had with that.

But in case maybe we don't remind someone, we've decided to up it a little.

Members of SeeD are pledging "Small Change" to the Susan G Komen Foudation.

To fit in with our idea that a lot of gnomes could make a huge difference, we're asking our members to over turn their coin jars. Members of the guild are picking a type of change, and saying that for every gnome that shows up to the race, they'll donate a quarter/nickel/dime/penny per gnome. At first, this doesn't sound like a lot, pennies per gnome? Let's do some math:

If 50 Gnomes show up
Pennies: 0.50
Nickles 2.50
Dimes 5.00
Quarters 12.50

With guild members pledging a variety of types of change (We're seeing a lot of Quarters!) the only limit is the amount of gnomes we see! Some members are even saying they'll even pledge bonus amounts if certain amounts of gnomes show up to the run, and we've all ready had several generous donations to our Passionately Pink for the Cure Team Page.

Okay, Okay, sounds like good stuff, but you mentioned gnome racing! Get to the fun stuff!

On October 2nd, at 8:30 Sever Time, (That's Central Standard Time incase you weren't on Scarlet Crusade), we'll begin our gnome race.

All of our gnomes will be on foot. Ideally they'll be level 1, and all of them should have pink hair!
They will start in Coldridge Valley, and race from there to Ironforge, to the tram, through Stormwind, through Elywnn Forest, across the river into Duskwood, and all the way across Stranglethorn Vale (Tigers, Apes and Trolls, Oh My!) to the best place we could think to end the race, Booty Bay.

There we will have people with the Trivia Bots, Fireworks, In Game Booze, Take Pictures, Dance, and have a competition for most Best Dressed "Baby Gnome" to reach Booty Bay.

Okay! I want to "Race" and help your cause! How do I do that?

Just roll a level 1 gnome (Give it pink hair!) on Scarlet Crusade US. It can be male or female, it can have a silly or a serious name. (Please keep it non-offensive!) And then log on a bit before 8:30 ST on Saturday.

We'll have a vanity guild called Gnomes Race for a Cure set up for you to choose to join. (The guild will have pretty pink tabards!) SeeD members will be around either on gnomes with the SeeD tag, or in Gnomes Race for a Cure, and we'll have tabards for you to wear if you'd like.

In the post below we have the race route in case you manage to get separated or something, or are just wondering what are plans are.

Remember, the more gnomes who show up, the more money that gets donated. Every gnome really does make a difference!

Problem! I'm on Scarlet Crusade, but all of my character are Horde! (Or I'm alliance but all of my character slots are full and not of of them are gnomes!)

Dress up in as much pink as you can, and run along side us! (Trolls have some fabulous pink hair!) Pink up the dead gnomes, cheer us on! Make it obvious you're part of our group! Get others to join our trip to Booty Bay! I'd suggest joining us right after we leave Stormwind if you're Hordeside and can't roll a gnome.

Also Pygmy Oil can turn anyone into a lovely Pink Haired Gnome!

This sounds neat, I wish I could partake, but I don't play WoW

Go download the trial! Roll a gnome, and race with us! Leave a comment with your gnome's name before the race and we'll /who for you to count you.

I'd like to pledge or donate too. How can I do that?

You can pledge in the comments on this post with your gnomes name if you'd like!

SeeD's Passionately Pink for a Cure Team Page can be found here. All donations made on that page will go directly to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

When the race is over, the officers will give the total amount of gnomes counted and update it on this website, and our website, as well as sharing it in several other places. People who pledged can then donate according to the amount that they pledged to via our Passionately Pink for The Cure Website.

There's also all ready been several donations in our name to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Thank you to those of you who have donated!
